Collection ‘17

“Soul Pots” are a collection of pieces created using the coiling and pinching method. Pit fired, matte surfaces with 23.5ct gold kintsugi.

“I'm particularly inspired by early Bronze Age beaker pottery. These vessels would be made for burial rituals, specifically for an individual, holding sustenance for passage into the afterlife. I feel an uprecedented connection to these pots whenever I see them; for me, they are a re-embodiment of life and death. When pit firing, the clay is taken from the ground, formed, and then returned to the earth to be fired. Clay rises from the ashes and is reborn, adorned with beautiful markings and colours. My pots go full circle in an almost ritualistic process” - Rhian Jones discussing “Soul Pots” for Ceramic Review Publication, 2018
