Beautifully Flawed: Wabi-Sabi in Contemporary Craft

Embracing ‘flaws’, creating balance through irregularity, subtlety, lack pretence and intent unforced are just few of many features that are striven for and applauded.

Displaying a wide range of techniques, materials, inspirations and styles, the artists brought together in ‘Beautifully Flawed’ highlight the skill and delicacy of embracing the ‘imperfect’ and mastering the delicate balance of the raw and the refined.

Crafted by artist Rhian Jones, these striking moons were crafted using burnished raku earthenware clay. Using the traditional pit and saggar firing method, Jones takes an experimental approach by firing her work with seaweed and adding various salt and fruit peel. The dreamy colour palette of these moons is a perfect combination with the 24ct gold kintsugi repair and decoration.” - Maud & Mabel, 2022
